What is stress and anxiety?
Stress and anxiety are modern epidemics in the civilised world today. Stress affects nearly everyone at some time in their lives for a number of reasons.

If you are finding it difficult to deal with stress or if you have a feeling of anxiety that you can’t pin down to anything, then hypnotherapy may be what you need in order to help you.

Most fear is born in our imagination, we call this fear an imagined fear. But your brain doesn’t know the difference between an imagined fear and a real fear.

A real fear, for example is if a tiger entered the room you are in right now, you would be in real and present danger, your heart rate and breathing would increase and your body would prepare for action.

Take someone who is imagining their boss shouting at them in their imagination for being late, it hasn’t happened yet as they are lying in bed worrying about it. You see we react to our imagination as if it was real and actually happening in the now.

As we evolved, human beings needed the so called “fight or flight” response to survive being eaten by a tiger or predator. In modern times we still have things which “trigger” our “fight or flight” response. But we can’t run if we are driving our car or talking to our boss. It is the constant activation of this “fight or flight” mechanism which causes all sorts of chemicals and substances to flow around our bodies for hours at a time. This is one of the reasons why stress is so damaging to the body and the mind.
